Security Guards Face Daily Risks; Proper Tools Can Keep Them Safe

Security guards put their lives on the line every day. Unfortunately, injuries are a regular job hazard. All too frequently security guards are assaulted in the line of duty.

Take for example, a recent incident in Riverside, California. The Press-Enterprise reports a suspect pulled a knife on a security guard outside a McDonald’s. As the security guard approached, the suspect attacked. The security guard suffered cuts on both arms, but fortunately wasn’t seriously injured.

In Miami, WPLG Local 10 reports a 24-year-old South Florida law student was arrested for selling drugs at a music festival and for battery after attacking a security guard.

While attacks on security guards have become all too common, the sad reality is many security professionals don’t have the right tools to protect themselves and the public.

That’s why Guardian 8 developed an intermediate solution for security guards between being armed and unarmed. The Pro V2 is a non-lethal defense device that could have been effective in both the Riverside and Miami incidents.

The Pro V2 provides layered protection for security officers. It records both audio and video of the situation so there is a permanent record. This is important for both prosecution and possible litigation.

When first activated, a red laser beam is pointed at the aggressor. A Bluetooth communication link is activated connecting the security officer with another party (supervisor, law enforcement, etc.) to alert them of the incident before it gets out of control. An alarm sound can also be activated to disorient the aggressor.

If the suspect refuses to obey commands, the security officer can discharge a stream of pepper spray from the Pro V2 to stop the aggressor.
