Wherever you go, they’re there. You may not pay much attention to them, but they are on the job protecting the public in shopping malls, stadiums, hospitals, schools and many more places.

Security guards are among America's unsung heroes.  Saturday, April 11, is National Security Guard Day.  It's a chance to stop and recognize the service security professionals provide every day across the country to help keep the public safe.

The event will have a light hearted moment in New York City when security guards will attempt to set two Guinness World Records™ on Segways. Actor Kevin James will be there riding a Segway on the red carpet to promote his new comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 , which will be in theatres April 17.  He'll be joined by security guards and their families for the premiere of his new movie.

While we all enjoy a good laugh, it's important to remember security is no laughing matter.  Paul Blart is a fun character, but he does not represent real security guards. Sony Pictures reminds people that the movie is a parody and security guards should be honored for their dedication and service.

"As we go about our daily lives, we're often completely unaware of the heroes that walk – or ride their Segways – among us and keep us from harm," said Dwight Caines, President of Sony Theatrical Marketing.  "On April 11, it's our chance to let the security guards of America know how much we all appreciate everything they do for us every day."

At Guardian 8, we agree it's time to let our security professionals know how much we appreciate their service.  It's also important to make sure to provide security guards with the right tools.  That's why Guardian 8 developed a non-lethal defense device called the Pro V2.  It provides an intermediate solution for security guards between being armed and unarmed.

The Pro V2 provides layered protection for security officers and records both audio and video of the situation so there is a permanent record of what happened.  To learn more about how the Guardian 8 Pro V2 operates, view this short video.

To the men and women who work as security guards protecting the public, we at Guardian 8 thank you for all you do to keep us safe.
